What is shiatsu?

Shiatsu is an ancient Japanese treatment. When translated literally it means : “pressure with the fingers”.
Shiatsu is a type of bodywork or therapy that is closely related to acupuncture. Both therapies work with the circulation of energy (Ki or Qi) which flows throughout the body along socalled meridians: pathways connecting with the vital organs. Not only do these meridians effect the physical body, but they are also of great influence on our mental and emotional wellbeing.

Shiatsu is an excellent method to treat complaints that occur when the body experiences disbalance after too much strain (either physical or emotional).
A lot is asked of us in ways we are not build for. For instance sitting at a desk all day, staring a computer screen and not having enough exercise or fresh air.
Also in our free time we are living in “the fast lane” with all those constant new impressions coming from tv, internet, newspapers and telephones.

Because of these 2 factors (doing work we are not build for and the constant stream of information we are taking in) body and mind can be out of balance and this can create tension.
This tension can reveal itself in symptoms like: headaches or migraines, rsi, neck-, shoulder- and back problems. Or possibly in forms like : insomnia, poor digestion, menstrual problems, irritation, depression or burnout.
